Jayde Cooper Artist Statement/Bio(She/Her) 23 Years Old
Born and raised in the sweeping landscapes of Southwest Montana, Jayde Cooper’s journey as an artist has been anything but conventional. After a brief enlistment in the Army National Guard and years of holding onto ideals that never quite fit, she has finally embraced the creative path she always felt drawn to. Art is no longer a hobby, it’s her calling.
Jayde Cooper has explored various media over the years, from ceramics to watercolor, but she consistently returns to her first love, acrylic painting. A transformative road trip across the country with her husband and their dog, spent off grid in national forests, helped her reconnect with her creative instincts and define her own visual language. That journey landed her in Asheville, North Carolina, where Jayde has found a thriving and resilient art community. One that inspired her to take the leap and begin her official career in art, especially in the wake of the region’s artistic resurgence after Hurricane Helen.
Jayde Cooper’s work centers on bold abstract colors and layered patterns, often grounded by motifs drawn from realism. These elements can reference anything from surreal dreams to sharp social critiques or simple fragments of everyday life. While meaning exists in each piece, Jayde Cooper embraces the ambiguity and personal resonance that abstraction offers. She believes the act of sharing art is a continuation of the creative process. What each viewer brings to a piece becomes part of its story.
Her work is currently on display in a local Asheville venue Coffee, Art, Music type Place, a coffee shop and creative hub known for showcasing new voices. This marks the first of what she hopes will be many steps in a long and evolving artistic journey.
